Shang Ding-In early April, in the Cesang area of Shang Ding Province, Cambodia, the water in the reservoir of the secondary hydropower station downstream of the Cesang River, the water and the blue sky merged into one and sparkled.
On the right bank of the dam, a clear stream flows through the woods downstream of the secondary dam. This is the natural fish pass of the station.
The project, costing US $ 781 million, is a three-way joint venture of China Huaneng Hydrolancang International Energy, which owns 51% of the Royal Cambodian Group (39%) and Vietnam EVN International Co., Ltd. ( 10%).
The 400 MW dam is the seventh largest dam built in Cambodia by China. The No. 2 dam downstream of the Sesang River is 56.5 meters high and covers an area of 36,000 hectares.
Yan Xiang, the deputy general manager of Xiasai Saner Hydropower Company, is responsible for the operation of the hydropower station. He said: "We have always adhered to the principle of" protection and development, "attaching great importance to the natural and ecological environment and providing Kam with green energy. Cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative.
When talking about the fishway, Nong Zuguan, the engineering manager responsible for the construction management of the fishway, said: "We turned it into a natural fishway to adapt to the surrounding environment, like a natural river. This is the fish home The way."
For a 2,900-meter-long fishway, the maximum water level difference between upstream and downstream is 26.5 meters. The bottom of the fishway is 4-5 meters wide, and a rest pool is set every 800 meters to make it easier for fish to swim.
The fishway started construction in April 2017 and was put into use at the end of the same year.
Mu Wanpeng, director of the station safety and environmental protection department, said about the intention to build a fishway. According to the environmental impact assessment of the project, there are 34 species of long-distance migratory fish in the project area. In order to meet the needs of these migrating fish and maintain the diversity of fish in the area, the company made a proposal to the Cambodian government to build a fishway.
"In order to verify the validity of the fishway, the company has carried out periodic inspections twice a month since its operation." In addition, the company is currently planning to invite professional teams to conduct fishway observation research projects.
Mu said that environmental protection has always been the top priority of the project. The project has detailed regulations on atmospheric protection, production and domestic sewage treatment, soil and water conservation, etc. The fishway construction is only a part of it.
"We use underground sewage treatment facilities to effectively treat domestic sewage, and the treated wastewater can be recycled for horticultural irrigation," Mu said.
The office and living area of the station is like a small garden, paved with green grass and picturesque.
The director of the Environment Department of Shangding, Ying Feirong, said that Xiasai San Er Hydropower Company attaches great importance to environmental protection and meets all the requirements of the environmental impact assessment document.
"My colleagues and I often visit hydropower stations to check the management of solid and liquid waste and we find that the company is well managed," he said.
The company has a storage tank for these liquid wastes, Fei Rong said, before storing them for disposal in rivers.
